Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

New to acupuncture, or to our clinic? Here are the answers patients ask us most.

Answers

Everything you need to know

Still curious about something? We're always happy to talk it through before your first visit.

QDoes acupuncture hurt?

Most patients feel little to no discomfort. The needles are extremely fine — far thinner than a blood-draw needle — and are placed gently just below the skin. Many people find treatment so relaxing they drift off to sleep. If you're nervous about needles, tell us and we'll go slowly, at your pace.

QWhat happens on my first visit?

Your first visit includes a full consultation — your health history, current concerns, and goals — followed by your first treatment. We listen first, then build a plan around you. Please allow about an hour.

QHow should I prepare, and what should I wear?

Eat a light meal beforehand and avoid arriving very hungry or very full. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up at the sleeves and legs. Bring a list of any medications or supplements, and your insurance card if you'd like us to verify coverage.

QHow many treatments will I need, and how often?

It depends on your condition and how long you've had it. Some patients feel relief after a single session; chronic conditions often benefit from a short course of weekly treatment. We'll give you an honest estimate at your first visit and adjust as we go.

QHow quickly will I notice a difference?

Many people notice better sleep, less pain, or a calmer mood after the first few sessions. Lasting change usually builds over a series of visits, which is why we put a plan together and check in with you along the way.

QWhat conditions can acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine help with?

We treat a wide range — chronic and acute pain, migraine and headaches, stress, anxiety and sleep, digestive complaints, women's health including fertility and menstrual issues, sports and injury recovery, and general wellness. Not sure whether we can help? Just call and ask.

QDo you accept insurance?

Yes — we accept many insurance plans, and coverage varies from plan to plan. The quickest first step is to call our office with your insurance card and date of birth, and we'll verify your coverage for you.

QWhat if I don't have insurance?

You're always welcome as a self-pay patient. Our self-pay packages lower your per-visit rate the more visits you bundle, and same-day appointments are often available. See our rates, or book on the booking page.

QDo you offer ultrasound imaging?

Yes — preventive and diagnostic ultrasound is available right in our office, with no radiation and no referral needed for screening. Some exams (such as whole abdomen) require fasting; others (such as pelvic) require a full bladder. See the preparation guide on our Ultrasound page.

QDo you care for Veterans?

We're honored to serve our Veterans in partnership with the local VA Office. To begin, please contact the VA Office directly so we can best support your needs. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

QIs acupuncture safe, and can it be combined with my other care?

Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed practitioner using sterile, single-use needles. It can be used alongside most medical treatments. Please tell us about any medications, pregnancy, or medical devices (such as a pacemaker) so we can tailor your care.

QWhere are you located, and is there parking?

We're at 12335 World Trade Dr., Ste. 1A, San Diego, CA 92128 (Foremost Professional Plaza), with dedicated parking on the west side of the building. Open Monday–Friday, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
